Very few Hillsdale running backs over the past 18 years have delivered performances that challenged the numbers amassed by 1994 grad Scott Schulte. With one regular season game left in his sophomore year, Charger Joe "The Show" Glendening is one big game away from topping the All-American from Delphos, Ohio.
As a junior, Schulte led the Chargers to a share of the MIFC title in 1992 and set the single season Hillsdale rushing record with 1582 yards. Glendening needs 160 to break that. Through 10 games, he has 1423 yards on 298 attempts. Three carries will give him the all-time single season record for most attempts. Schulte had 300 in 1993 to set the mark.
Glendening is 1st in the GLIAC for rushing yards and 3rd in the nation. He averages 142.3 yards per game and will face the worst rushing defense in the nation this week in Tiffin. The Dragons are 151 out of 151 D2 teams and give up an average 313 ground yards a game. The only thing that may slow down Glendening is an elbow injury he suffered against Wayne State three weeks ago. Of course in the last 2 games he has carried the ball 74 times.
Here is a clip of Schulte as a sophomore in 1991.
