Tiffin (0-9, 1-9) at #14 Hillsdale (7-2, 8-2)
The Dragons have been draggin' for most of the season. Yes, they showed life by holding a second half lead in last week's game with Lake Erie, but they'll have their work cut out for them to keep up with Hillsdale. In addition to trying to clinch a share of the GLIAC South, the Chargers are also presently clinging to the region's final playoff spot and need the victory in order to keep both of those rewards in their sites.
Tiffin Keys:
- Young, but not Restless - When TU QB Jason Young plays well, he can move the offense. He's thrown thirteen touchdown passes this year, and will need at least a few for Tiffin to have a shot in this one.
- Hide another Dude - You know, in order to sneak a twelfth player out on defense? Could be a small guy that can hide behind someone else. Buddy Ryan used to try cramming another guy onto his defense/special teams, and given the amount of rushing yardage Tiffin is giving up (especially against the run) getting an extra dude on the field couldn't hurt. Well, as long as they don't get caught, I guess.
Hillsdale Keys:
- Joe-a-Go-Go - Charger running back Joe Glendening can set the Hillsdale single-season rushing record with 162 yards in this one. If Hillsdale makes the playoffs, he may have more chances to eclipse the mark currently held by Scott Schulte. Given that Tiffin is yielding a league-worst 313 yards per game on the ground, I kinda like his chances of getting the yards he needs this weekend. Look for Hillsdale to run the ball like crazy.
- Don't lose Focus - Just like their fellow GLIAC South frontrunners Wayne State, Hillsdale closes out their season with a struggling outfit that they have easily overmatched. Still gotta go out there and win the game, however. Falling asleep at the switch is not an option.
Prediction - Hillsdale runs the ball, and has a great short/intermediate passing game as a compliment. Tiffin will play hard, but I just can't see them slowing down the Chargers enough to stay close. Hillsdale 48, Tiffin 18.Read the rest of Tony's column to get his take on how the playoff seedings will shake out.
