Panizzi moves up all-time single-season rushing list

Entering Saturday’s game, Hillsdale’s Vinnie Panizzi (#22 left) has rushed for 1178 yards this season. With one regular season game to go, this year’s total is the 5th best all-time. Panizzi knocked Charger Hall of Famer Scott Schulte’s 1991 total of 1144 down to sixth place. Panizzi currently owns the 7th and 8th best single season totals of 1086 (2008) and 1085 (2007).

To reach 4th place, he will need 172 yards to catch the 1350 set by Kevin Clive in 2002. Jeff Cameron’s 3rd place 1462 mark set in 1990 is 284 yards away.

Schulte currently holds the top two best single-season outputs of 1499 (321 away) from 1993 and 1582 (404 away) set in 1992.

With any luck, Panizzi will have extra opportunities to build his single season totals as the Chargers continue to hope for a 2009 NCAA playoff bid.
