Running Game Propels Chargers to Big Win

While still possessing one of the best passing attacks in the nation, Hillsdale College found a new weapon in its arsenal — a running game.


Out of rhythm in the air, the Chargers used a bruising ground attack to separate themselves from Tiffin in a 31–14 nonconference game Saturday at Muddy Waters Stadium. The win keeps Hillsdale’s playoff hopes alive as they prepare for a road game at Findlay this week.

Vinnie Panizzi rushed for a career–best 161 yards and two touchdowns to help Hillsdale (7–2) secure the win under cloudy skies and brisk northwest wind. The Chargers gained more yards on the ground (261) than they did in the air (190) for the first time all season.

“Now Findlay and Saginaw Valley have two facets to defend against,” Chargers offensive coordinator Barry Fagan said referring to Hillsdale’s next two opponents.
