After hitting .274 as a junior, Husky worked in offseason to hammer .462 average

ARCADIA -- Cody Henderson didn't like the way he finished his junior baseball season, so the Hamilton Heights senior went to work on his hitting.
The results were striking.
"I kind of went into a slump, and I said 'That's never going to happen again,'" said Henderson, this year's Noblesville Ledger Athlete of the Year for Baseball. "I came out this season before practice and hit a bunch of balls, and after practice, I went to a friend's batting cage. Every time I went to the plate, I definitely had confidence. I wanted to be up there in a tough situation."
After batting .274 with no homers and 12 RBIs from the leadoff spot in 2006, Henderson hit .462 with four homers and 28 RBIs as a senior. He cut his strikeouts from 24 to 14 in leading the Huskies to a school-record 18 wins against eight losses.
"That's not a soft batting average," Heights coach Rick Hawley said. "He had a lot of big hits for us. He hit a home run against Noblesville that won the game for us. He had a (three-run) double against (Pendleton Heights' Boston Red Sox draftee) Brock Huntzinger in the sectional that was huge."
Henderson stayed in the leadoff spot this season, but switched positions, moving from center field to right. His brother, junior Jake Henderson took over in center.
