Holmes holds his own at the Combine

Hillsdale's Andre Holmes had his moment on the Lucas Oil Stadium turf Sunday and turned in a couple of the better performances of the day. A 10 foot 10 inch broad jump was the 3rd best recorded amongst wide receivers and his 3 cone drill time hit the board at NFL.com as a top performer as well.

Check the spreadsheet below to see how Holmes' measurables stacked up against the rest. Speaking of measurables, at 6-4 3/4, he was the 2nd tallest WR at the event.

Reno recruit can kick

I was making my routine check of the Hillsdale incoming freshman list and noticed three new names today.

After immediately beginning to "Google" these guys, the first link for 6-3 169 Eric Johnson from Galena HS in Reno, NV looked very promising.

ERIC JOHNSON Galena, Football, Senior. Johnson scored all 30 points for the Grizzlies in their upset of Douglas on Friday. The receiver/kicker had three touchdown catches, three extra points and three field goals, including a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter."

While Colin McGreevy was nearly perfect on extra points, he didn't show that kind of range and it would be nice to have someone at least handle kickoffs that can put it in the endzone once in a while.

Also added to the list this week are South Bend (IN) Marian QB-DB Thomas Marian and 6-4 270 OL Robert Pfeiffer from Toledo St. Francis.

Hillsdale's Andre Holmes will begin with the 40 yard dash at 9:00 AM on Sunday, followed by the rest of the measurable drills and the position drills.

Hillsdale welcomes next wave of recruits

As is typical, Hillsdale has added another set of players to its initial signing day class for the upcoming 2011 season.

The following players bring the incoming freshman class to 21.

Collegian: NFL looking at holmes, Weatherhead

In the weeks since going to their second straight Division II playoff game, Hillsdale College's football seniors have gone many different directions. A few graduated in December, others are cruising through their last semester, and two are working out every morning in pursuit of a career in the NFL.

Two Charger seniors were invited to play in post-season all-star games this year, and both have continued to receive attention from the highest levels of competition.

Senior quarterback Troy Weatherhead competed in the Cactus Bowl on Jan. 7, a game highlighting the best players of Division II. Only two quarterbacks made each team's roster.

Senior wide receiver Andre Holmes played in the Texas vs. The Nation game Saturday, a game that featured players from Division I schools such as Ohio State University and Wisconsin University. He started for The Nation and caught both passes thrown his way. Currently, Holmes is in Tampa Bay, training for the NFL Combine on Feb. 24.

Weatherhead said although there were a lot of good players in the Cactus Bowl, he felt like he belonged.

"To be honest, I felt like I was the best [quarterback] down there, when it came to staying in the pocket and throwing," he said.

Hillsdale.edu: Trio of Chargers named honorable mention All-American by D2football.com

Hillsdale College Release

February 1, 2011 - Three members of the 2010 Hillsdale College football team were named honorable mention All-American by D2football.com. The website released its list late Monday night.

D2football.com is considered the premier entity covering Division II football, and Hillsdale College was well-represented on its All-American list.

Sophomore RB Joe Glendening, senior WR Andre Holmes and senior QB Troy Weatherhead were each named to the honorable mention list by the website. It is the second All-American honor for Weatherhead, while Glendening and Holmes each earned that recognition for the first time.

Weatherhead was previously named honorable mention All-American by the Don Hansen Football Gazette.

The Chargers' starting quarterback for three seasons, Weatherhead finished 2010 as the GLIAC Player of the Year and the NCAA Division II leader in passing efficiency. He also set an all-division record for pass completion percentage in a single season (76.9), and led the GLIAC in completions (279) and passing yards (3,215). He finished his career as Hillsdale College's all-time leader in career completions, attempts, yards and touchdown passes.

Glendening enjoyed a spectacular first season as the starting running back for the Chargers, earning First-Team All-GLIAC accolades. He set a single-season school record with 312 rushing attempts, and led the conference with 1,485 rushing yards, and scored 15 touchdowns.

Holmes made a big name for himself on the nationwide stage in 2010, finishing with 104 catches for 1,368 yards and 11 touchdowns. His receptions and receiving yards were both single-season school records. He was also named First-Team All-GLIAC, and has been invited to the NFL Combine later this month, as well as the NFLPA Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game, scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 5.

All three players were key components to Hillsdale's 9-3 season in 2010. The Chargers were co-champions of the GLIAC South Division, and qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the second year in a row.
