Three members of Hillsdale College's incoming class of freshmen football players will be in action Saturday at Grand Valley's Lubbers Stadium. They won't be playing the Lakers but instead will participate in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association All Star Game.

Game time is 2:00 PM. Tickets are $10. Fox Sports Detroit will carry the game live.

Jared Veldheer and Alyssa Dehaan team up for youth camp

Oakland Raider Jared Veldheer and former Michigan State basketball star Alyssa Dehaan will team up on June 19th for the Metro Health "Keeping the Beat" youth camp.

Boys entering grades 5 to 8 can participate in a football camp led by Veldheer while girls in the same grades can learn basketball skills from Dehaan.

The camp is from 6-8PM at Forest Hills Northern High School in Grand Rapids.

March 20, 2013 - Mark your calendars for Monday, June 17 for the Jack Barker Memorial Hillsdale Charger Football Golf Outing. The event will be hosted by the Arbor Hills Golf Club in Jackson, Michigan.

Registration will open at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start set for noon. Dinner will be served and raffle prizes will be available.

Hillsdale's Glendening has no regrets in giving NFL a shot

While his graduating class was walking across the stage and receiving diplomas at Hillsdale College, the Chargers' all-time leading rusher Joe Glendening  was 401 miles away in the Green Bay Packers' Don Hutson Center trying out for the storied NFL franchise.

"It was an unreal experience and I have no regrets," Glendening stated. "Unfortunately I wasn't offered a contract at the end of the weekend."

"Joe the Show", as he's been known since his middle school days in East Grand Rapids, was part of a stacked rookie camp running back group. Included were 2nd round pick Alabama's Eddie Lacy, 4th round pick Jonathan Franklin from UCLA, and undrafted free agent Angelo Pease from Kansas State.

Glendening says he hasn't heard from any other teams about possible invites to fall camp but will stay in shape this summer, just in case a team may call. In the meanwhile he will be looking to put his degree in marketing to use.

Andre Holmes joins former Hillsdale teammate Jared Veldheer in Oakland

Andre Holmes will move into his fourth NFL facility when he joins the Oakland Raiders for off-season work. The former Hillsdale College receiver was claimed by the Silver and Black on waivers early this week after New England cut Holmes on Saturday. The Chicago-area native will reunite with former Hillsdale teammate and Oakland starting tackle Jared Veldheer as both were key factors in the Division II program's resurgence and first ever playoff bid in 2009.

Holmes was originally signed out of HIllsdale by the Vikings and was cut after the team's 2011 training camp. He spent the majority of that season and last year in the Cowboys' organization on both the practice squad and active roster. New England signed Holmes after he was released Thanksgiving weekend by Dallas.

Incoming Charger John Terry earns Michigan All-Star Game bid

Tecumseh Herald Terry first to be named to All-Star team since 1988

Tecumseh High School senior John Terry was recently selected as a player by the Michigan High School Coaches Association (MHSCA) for the East vs. West All-Star Football game, scheduled during the summer.

Terry is the first Tecumseh football player named to the team since 1988 when Tim Bryan was selected, and is only the fourth player ever to receive the honor from Tecumseh.

Tecumseh varsity football coach Al Romano has spoken highly of John Terry, one of the limited few that the coach played on both sides of the ball. Terry played both as a defensive back and running back for the Indians. Romano said in the past season he wished he had a dozen players just like Terry, who he considers a part of his extended family.

Terry committed to attend Division II Hillsdale College in February. He will graduate Tecumseh with a 4.109 grade point average. Terry is a member of the All-Academic All-State baseball team, received honorable mention for the All-Academic All-State football team, was Kiwanis Senior of the Month, THS Student of the Month, and received a THS Academic Letter.
